Afiya and Johnene are dedicated to empowering and promoting the visibility of multi-cultural interior design professionals and artists, as well as exposing youth to the world of design and art. They believe in community service and are active members of American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Organization of Black Designers (OBD)/ Osmosis Mentoring, BroMenn Regional Healthcare Board, Central Illinois Links, Sisters & Friends Art Show and United Way.

Through their sophisticated, global style, Afiya and Johnene, incorporate classic contemporary elements through custom designs, and original works of art. Their passion and inspiration for design emanate from the visual arts. This mother and daughter team assesses the client’s needs and then translates the vision, creating ‘rooms of discovery’.

Afiya Adams received a Bachelor of Interior Design at Howard University, and studied at the Esag Design School in Paris through the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). After designing for several internationally recognized architecture and design firms, Afiya founded AHA Designs in 1998, a full service Interior Design firm providing distinctive environments for both high-end residential and commercial boutique clients.
Johnene Adams joined AHA Designs in 2002. She received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Colorado, taught nursing, and then segued into corporate America as a marketing consultant, then as a global career management million dollar sales woman. Her passion has always been art and design and so she followed in her daughter’s footsteps and attended Harrington School of Interior Design.

AHA Designs has been featured in Design & Architecture magazine, Chicago Tribune magazine, Forward magazine, BVQ magazine, Rolling Out magazine, Chicago Defender, Daily Pantagraph, USA Radio, WFLD-TV- FOX Chicago.
